Makers' Mums #5

Makers' Mums #5

I've really enjoyed doing this little feature and our last maker is Angie Rogers, a talented printmaker and painter. Angie makes gorgeous detailed woodcuts inspired by nature and landscapes. You can see her work on instagram @angierogersartist and buy a range of prints at www.angierogers.com

This beautiful printed Golden Plover nest would make a unique Mother's Day gift. Angie's mum had a fascinating job with a connection to metal work. "My mum was involved in the famous metal trades of her home city Birmingham. During WW2, aged only 16, she worked for a firm making aluminium struts for the undercarriages of Lancaster Bombers. It’s where she met my dad.

An outstanding characteristic of my mum was her great love for children, she had 6 of her own and later became a much-loved primary school teacher. In the photo she’s with one of her many granddaughters."

"Mum always supported local artists and makers like Annie of Modern Alchemy Jewellery. I think she would have liked to own the Orbit Medallion necklace for its lovely hammered metal texture and for the circular form possibly symbolising for her the nurturing wholeness of a nest."
